Making the Most of a VoIP Business Phone System | David Jackson's Biz Making the Most of a VoIP Business Phone System - David Jackson's Biz

A VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol phone system is now becoming more and more popular in business companies. By connecting phone calls using the Internet instead of telephone wires, VoIP plans can provide a less expensive and dependable phone service with higher quality and more features than what conventional phones can provide.

But before you switch to a new phone system and disposing all your old telephones, there are some important things to consider. Without the right knowledge, you could end up paying for services your company doesn’t need. These tips should a business company in figuring out how to choose the best VoIP plan to maximise savings and satisfaction.

1. Know what your business needs.

This seems obvious, but usually it gets forgotten. Do your research. Choosing the right VoIP plan involves knowing how many people who will need to make phone calls at a certain period of time, including the peak hours. This also involves knowing what telephone hardware and software your people already use.

Many companies will perhaps choose an unlimited plan, but small companies that need to make just a few phone calls each month might only require 1,000 monthly minutes or less. The needs of small and large companies are very different.

2. The Internet connection of your business should be up to the task. Many companies already have Internet connections. A fast broadband Internet connection is fundamental for a business VoIP phone system to work well. When a business company chooses to use VoIP over a slower Internet connection service that is already burdened with various devices of employees, it ends up giving choppy connections. The blame is put on the VoIP provider, when the the blame must be placed on the strained Internet connection.

With a high-speed, reliable Internet connection, the quality of calls made over VoIP is excellent. VoIP calls wouldn’t slow down an Internet connection by a significant rate but they require access to an uncongested network.

3. On-Site PBX or Hosted?

A PBX or Private Branch Exchange connects and manages many phone lines with numerous extensions. When there’s an incoming call, the PBX will activate the automated attendant that asks which specific department the caller would want to reach, and when the right number is selected, the call is forwarded to the desired department.
