An affiliate marketer is a third party that endorses or markets the products or services of a company in exchange for incentives based on referrals and/ or product sales.
It is a simple and straight-forward agreement between a merchant and an affiliate. During the start-up stages of deciding to be an affiliate marketer, it is important to learn the ropes by following such steps as:
Step #1: Educating yourself
Education is the key to increasing one’s chances of success in the online affiliate marketing industry. Search for sites that have write ups on the different types of business models involved when marketing different types of products using this structure. It is also best to browse through different affiliate blogs and affiliate forums to get a better feel of the ins and outs of the industry. Visiting different affiliate marketing sites and reading though their FAQs would also be helpful as a crash course on this growing industry.
Step #2: Turning that information into usable knowledge
After getting insights as to the workings of an affiliate marketer in particular and the affiliate marketing industry in general, one has to connect-the-dots on how he could turn this information into usable knowledge. For instance, knowing that getting into this business involves building a sales structure, he could then start mapping out how to generate a dynamic and productive affiliate network under him. If he learned that a catchy domain name is critical as well as a professional looking website, then he should be thinking now of a creative and appealing domain name while also assessing his website designer and hosting options.
Step #3: Start applying the knowledge by taking action
Going by Step#2 on the network building process, the affiliate marketer could then start calling or emailing friends he knows with perhaps an online sales video presentation of the company to assist him in inviting them to join his network. Also, he could start to buy and register the domain name he though of while already engaging the services of a web host or web designer.
Step #4: Test and tweak, test and tweak. This one never ends.
Once the website and the affiliate network are in place, he can gauge the productivity and growth of the affiliate business on a weekly or perhaps monthly basis. The assessment could include commission data and sales generation data. Are the incentives growing? If so, from where is his business generating most of its sales? After which, he can improve his marketing strategy accordingly.
