History of the Video Sales Letter | David Jackson's Biz History of the Video Sales Letter

Before anything else, what is video marketing? As the term suggests, it is simply the use of video to market and promote products, services, and causes. It is commonly associated with online marketing since it is mostly conducted on the internet. It is also often mistaken with viral marketing considering the fact that majority of the content that go viral online are in the form of videos. Video marketing has gained prominence and wide use in the internet marketing industry during the last decade or so. So the concept is still in its early stages. That said, not too many businesses and other online entities are aware of the power and effectiveness of this form of marketing.

One of the most common applications of video marketing is the use of the video sales letter. This is basically a sales page wherein the sales pitch is presented using a video. This marketing technique started to take root back in the year 2000. Since then, it has grown in popularity and use. As more content become available online, people started gravitating towards those that are easier and quicker to consume. The video market began to explode. This became even more glaring as numerous video-sharing sites sprouted. It became so easy to create, upload, and share videos that it would be a sin if you don’t take advantage of it for your online sales and marketing campaigns.

The good thing about sales videos is that they are no longer that difficult to create. There are hundreds of tools and resources online that you can use to edit and format your sales video. Majority of these are free to use so there are absolutely no reasons why you should not utilize them. About two decades ago, you need to invest a huge sum of money just to create a single video. That is no longer the case these days. In fact, you can create a professionally-looking video for no costs at all. Zero. Zilch. Furthermore, if you are too busy to create the video yourself, you can always outsource it for a very small investment. Or you can just purchase Private Label Rights videos then customize them to suit your video sales letter. Video marketing offers flexibility, you should take advantage of it.

The traditional sales page or sales letter is no longer as effective as it used to be. It will only be a matter of time before the whole thing disappears. In short, the traditional sales letter is on its way out. So if you insist on using it now, don’t be surprised if you get very low conversion rates. It’s a different ball game now. The video sales page is the norm nowadays. To give you an idea about the effectiveness of a video sales page, it has a conversion rate of 6.9%. Now, compare this to the conversion rate of a traditional sales page which is 2.1%. The former is obviously a much better option. In using videos, you increase your conversion rate for every sale. Videos are more enticing to a reader/viewer so this is not surprising at all.

Over 50% of sales letters nowadays are made of videos. What does this say? It means that video marketing is effective, it brings results, and more importantly it has higher conversion rates than other forms of sales pages. This doesn’t necessarily mean though that you should abandon the traditional sales page. In some cases, there are types of businesses that you can’t seem to fully market with a video. With that said, you can always use a combination of a video sales page and a traditional sales page. This way, you maximize your audience. Those who prefer watching sales pitches over reading them, they can check out the sale video. Those who wish to read it; they can browse through the traditional sales page.
